Promesas y límites de la democracia: discusiones políticas en torno del pensamiento de Jacques Derrida

Abstract

The central theme of this reflection on democracy is the problem of identity and difference in the context of a recognition of the absence of an ultimate foundation of the social and political. An emphasis on the impossibility of aggregation is central to the development of a new way of left-thinking that is more reflective about the paradoxical role that democracy plays in the current world. To address the range of problems that cut across the definition of democracy, this article will examine how two references in post-foundational contemporary political theory understand the thinking of Jacques Derrida, namely: Ernesto Laclau and Chantal Mouffe.
