Abstract

The discovery of the gut-bone axis promoted the development of treatment strategies aimed to preserve bone mineral density. Probiotics and probiotic complexes in combination with bone mineral matrix are gradually becoming a new treatment method for osteoporosis. This literature review aims to explore the role of gut microbiota in osteoclastogenesis, bone healing, mechanisms of its effects, and possible ways to modify the microbiota in order to improve bone metabolism.
