Casos para Ensino: A Floresta Encantada que Transforma Realidades: O Caso da Klabin S/A

Abstract

The city of Telêmaco Borba was created under the influence of Klabin, a large pulp and paper industry. To mitigate the strong dependency developed by the city, the local government proposed the creation of the industrial district of Telêmaco Borba to Klabin and to timber magnates. To Klabin the district represented a possible destination for the excesses of raw material from its forests as well as diversification to reduce exposure to seasonal cycles of the pulp and paper industry. On the other hand, to the district Klabin represented both an economic alternative and a limitation to its development. This teaching case debates these dilemmas in the light of LPA and productive cluster concepts, and provides references for diagnostics and possibilities for actions for Klabin, the District and public institutions.
