Abstract

At the end of the year 2013 the open access portal “German Medical Science” (gms) has attained a well-established stage of development documented by the number of published articles and abstracts and by the electronic visits to the portal. Meanwhile 3,208 articles and 46,800 abstracts have been published. The portal will this year integrate a section for electronic books, the first project pending will be the publication of a textbook for hand surgery. In the interdisciplinary journal “GMS German Medical Science”, 185 articles have been published to date. The journal is indexed in databases like BASE, DIMDI, EBSCO, Embase, MEDLINE, Medpilot, PubMed Central, etc. In 2014, the further development of the portal will be accompanied by a horizontal reorganization. The journal “GMSPsycho-Social-Medicine”, which has been published since 2004 as an independent journal, will merge into a special section of the interdisciplinary journal “GMS German Medical Science”. The reasons are mainly organisational and financial. The editorial board and the reviewer will remain active and hopefully the readers, too. Thus, beginning with January 2014 all manuscripts from the psychosocial field shall be submitted to “GMS German Medical Science”.
