Abstract
Energy system contribution and correlates to performance in a 2000 m rowing ergometry time trial in South African rowers
Exercise physiologists and coaches frequently base training objectives on physical and physiological demands of sports, including relative contributions of energy supply mechanisms during the activity. Oxidative and non-oxidative metabolic contributions to 2000 m rowing ergometry have been studied previously in rowers of various abilities and using different methods, but never on a group of elite athletes. The results of this study have practical implications for athlete profiling, sport classification and time trial performance interpretation.
