Abstract

: Public transport plays a very important role in the functioning of every major urban center, but it is particularly important in the situation when it is necessary to handle a sudden, significant increase in the number of passengers who do not have their own means of transport, e.g. tourists. This situation can occur when the city hosts an event such as the organization of European Championship football matches. In 2012, Polish and Ukrainian cities jointly hosted the EURO 2012 competition. Lviv was one of the host cities. This article characterizes the functioning of Lviv public transport before the organization of the football championship. Their impact on changes in the urban transport sector was analyzed, and the situation was compared in 2012 and at the end of 2019. The analysis was used to formulate conclusions aimed at answering research questions on the impact of the organization of international sports competitions on the functioning and reorganization Lviv city transport.
