Abstract

Benzodiazepines (BZD) are heterocyclic compounds which stand out for their sedative, hypnotic, anxiolytic, and anticonvulsant activity. In order to develop more attractive syntheses based on literature data, this systematic review has analyzed the scientific articles on the synthesis and biological evaluation of benzodiazepine derivatives, application of catalysts, green solvents and strategic substitutions into this nucleus. A bibliographic research was performed in the Web of Science and PubMed databases and resulted in 522 articles. Among these, 80 of these articles met the inclusion criteria and were selected to compose this review. The structures that show better biological activity and the synthesis strategies to obtain these derivatives were reported. New perspectives in the synthesis of benzodiazepines were possible with this review.
