Abstract

The influences of the length and width of small-aperture cavity are calculated with the [Formula: see text]–[Formula: see text] model and large eddy simulation on the frequencies of resonant peaks of flow-induced cavity noise at different flow velocities in water. The calculated results show that the semi-empirical Rossiter formulas are only suitable for large-aperture models. For small-aperture cavity models, the resonance peak frequencies predicted by these formulas deviate greatly from the corresponding numerical results. In addition, as the length of cavity opening decreases, the minimum flow velocity gradually increases, at which a resonant peak just appears. Finally, the range of this minimum flow velocity is given for the different opening lengths.
