I Get Money: A Therapeutic Financial Literacy Group for Black Teenagers

Abstract

ABSTRACT Literacy is an essential skill in the modern world, as having the ability to read, write, and communicate effectively is critical. Additionally, financial stability is imperative in a Western society that values wealth and upward mobility. Together, financial literacy is a crucial combination of skills and education that allows people to make efficient/knowledgeable monetary decisions. Although many U.S.-born citizens struggle with financial competence, U.S. born Blacks appear to suffer more economical disadvantages. To assist in ameliorating these disparities, this article promotes a therapeutic financial literacy group for Black male teenagers, which is thematically based on popular rap songs glamorizing money.
