Abstract
Objective
To compare the influences of three inferior oblique surgeries on horizontal, vertical and rotary eye positions.
Methods
Fifty-one cases of inferior oblique (IO) muscles overaction who underwent the weaken surgery alone were collected retrospectively. There were three surgical methods underwent: recessions of IO (Group A, 15 cases), myectomy of IO (Group B, 23 cases) and transposition of IO (Group C, 13 cases).
Results
The influences on horizontal position in group A, B, C were not different(P >0.05). The influences on vertical position were 7.5△±3.5△, 8.1△±2.9△, 12.8△±3.1△ in group A, B, C, respectively, and there was no significant differenc between group A and B (P >0.05), and there were significant differences between group C and A/group C and B (P 0.05).
Conclusions
In efficiency of influence to eye positions, both recession and myectomy are equal. There is few influence to the horizontal eye position in these three surgery methods. Transposition of the IO strikes the greatest influence to the vertical eye position. All three surgery methods have the similar influence to rotary position.
Key words:
Inferior oblique overaction; Recession; Myectomy; Transposition
