Abstract

In this contribution, we discuss a possible antenna-based cloak for overcoming the intrinsic narrow frequency and angular bandwidths of conventional metasurface-based cloaks. The idea is to use a fully passive antenna array to mimic the reflection from a ground plane even in presence of an electrically large metallic bump. Here, a triangular bump over a ground plane is cloaked covering both sides by a pair of conventional half-wavelength dipole arrays. Inspired by the Van Atta array configuration, we connect the antenna elements on one side to the other in order to restore the phase fronts as the bump were not present. The performances have been numerically evaluated, showing the ability of the proposed setup to mimic the reflection from a ground plane over the frequency operation band of the antenna elements. Wide angular bandwidth is achieved thanks to the self-adaptive nature of the proposed configuration.
