Abstract

Several classes of organosilicon polymers are effective precursors for silicon carbide ceramic compositions. These include polydimethylsilane (via a two-step process), ‘polysilastyrene’, polycarbosilazanes or polysilazanes, and certain siloxanes, plus the branched polycarbosilanes, branched polysilahydrocarbons, and vinylic polysilanes developed at Union Carbide.
