Conservadorismo Católico na Era Vargas (1930-1945): liberais, integralistas e comunistas segundo Plínio Corrêa de Oliveira

Abstract

Plinio Correa de Oliveira (1908-1995) was a important intellectual in Brazilian Catholic thought, with a very broad performance in the religious and political scene of the twentieth century. Plinio originated a conservative line of thought with an expressive strand of Catholic intellectuals and thinkers in Brazil and another countries of the world who defend his preaching based on a conservative line connected with traditional catholicism. In the Vargas era (1930-1945), anti-liberal values and authoritarian/totalitarian tendencies put the values defended by liberal democracies in crisis all over the world. Communists, Integralists, Liberals, Conservatives and Catholics were disputing space in the Brazilian social structure. This article aims to show nuances of the construction of the conservative thought of Plinio Correa de Oliveira and his analysis about the different ideological visions of the period before Catholicism.
