Abstract

The objective of this study is to highlight the term ‘khushu’’ (humble submission) within two important points; its meaning and the related words mentioned in the Holy Quran. There is a very broad explanations on its meaning from literal and technical perspective, in addition to the wide interpretations of the words that are in relation to the term ‘khushu’’ mentioned in the Quran. Several methods have been used in this study including inductive and analytical methods in studying the texts; by compiling the meaning of ‘khushu’’ and words that have meanings related to the term before revising them in the exegesis books, dictionaries and other primer academic sources for verification. One of the most significant result from the study is ‘khushu’’ and its derivatives in the Quran which refer to five indicators namely submission, serenity of human lives, fear, humility and aridity, thus it is the feeling of humility and fear towards Allah. The words related to the term ‘khushu’’ mentioned in the Quran were interpreted as subsidence, apprehension, fear and deputation.
