Holmium Laser Sclerostomy in the Management of Refractory Glaucoma

Abstract

Holmium laser sclerostomy is a useful surgical procedure in the management of advanced refractory glaucomatous eyes. The success rate is comparable to success rates using more extensive surgical procedures, such as Molteno implant or surgical trabeculectomy. Complications are significantly less when compared with the Molteno implant. Another advantage of holmium laser sclerostomy is that the conjunctiva is minimally dissected, and less surgical trauma is involved with the procedure.
