After acid modification in the macromolecule of coal, the degree of aromaticity decreases, oxygen-containing fragments increase. The physicochemical properties of catalysts have been studied. The study of physicochemical properties shows the presence of micro-and mesopores in the structure of carbon carriers and catalysts. There is an increase in the specific surface of the carbon carrier treated with acid (MU), as well as the silver catalyst (MU-Ag) applied to this carrier. The results of IR spectroscopy show the presence of absorption bands in silver catalysts, indicating the ionization of functional groups and the replacement of H + with M + . The position of the characteristic bands for M-C bond depends on the nature of the carbon carrier. The SEM method established that the sample of native coal has a dense surface structure, while the morphology of the material does not change. With the chemical activation of coal with nitric acid, a carbon carrier with a characteristic porous structure, loose surface morphology and texture was obtained. The surface texture of silver catalysts consists of densely fused globules, between which voids are visible, forming a bumpy surface texture.
