Group I (Normal control), group II (HFD-fed only), while group III, IV and V received aqueous methanol (80%) leaf extract of CM at varied doses of 100, 200 and 400 mg/kg, respectively, while group VI were given the standard drugAtorvastatin (4 mg/kg) for two weeks. Total Cholesterol (TC), Triacylglycerol (TAG), High Density Lipoproteins (HDL-C), Creatine Kinase (CK), and Lactate Dehydrogenase (LDH) were assayed spectrophotometrically and Atherogenic Index (AI) calculated using standard formula. GC-MS revealed 2,3-dihydro-3,5-dihydroxy-6-methyl-4H-pyran-4-one, 5-oxycatechol and 1,2,3benzenetriol to be the principal compounds.
