Abstract

The feedback adaptive variable-bit-rate system (FAVR) is a means of maximizing the throughput and minimizing the waiting time of a meteor-burst communication channel. It is shown that high reliability in automatic bit-rate identification can be realized with a small reduction in throughput as compared with an ideal variable bit-rate system. It is concluded that high throughput is achieved because the signal power is most effectively utilized and there is no overhead for conveying the bit-rate information.
