Pitfall of the LASH technique: an unsuspected leiomyosarcoma removed after morcellation

Abstract

Mesenchymal uterine tumours can mimic benign uterine tumours and are therefore often diagnosed postoperatively. We report the first case of intra-abdominally morcellated unsuspected leiomyosarcoma in the laparoscopic-assisted supracervical hysterectomy (LASH) technique. This article discusses the prevention of spillage and the inadequate oncologic management which are specific to this technique in case of leiomyosarcoma or stromal sarcoma.
