Abstract

Event Detection has gained a lot of attention as a potential research area in the last decade due to emergence and huge adoption of online social media platforms. Though the problem is examined extensively by many researchers, it is the first and foremost important to understand events in detail and then apply detection techniques to identify them. In this paper, we will first study the properties of events and classify them based on these properties. Then, we propose a generic framework for event detection as a possible guideline to develop such systems.
