In addition to growing population in the already densely populated coastal areas (Neumann et al. 2015), natural resources and habitats for fauna and flora are becoming ever more scarce (Bendixen et al. 2019). Adaptation to climate-induced rising sea levels constitutes an additional challenge that raises the question of how our coasts can adapt in ways that do not compromise their future sustainability.
