Abstract
We constructed a wideband, optical feeding antenna that combines elements of a hemispherical antenna and a biconical antenna. Measurement of the radiated electrical field and comparison of the values with ones calculated using the finite difference time domain (FDTD) method showed that the calculated values for the frequency characteristics and the directivities of the radiated electric field agreed very well with the measured ones. The measured frequency characteristics of the radiated electric field were almost flat from 1 to 8 GHz. The measured electrical field levels were from 90 to 100 dB/spl mu/V/m.
