This paper described the application of VRML and the development of ?Computer Assembly and Maintenance? distance education system based on VRML, discussed the design and realization of teaching content and virtual scenes, animation and user interaction, courseware navigation and optimizations of the system. By using the system, students can access the teaching content and virtual scenes at anytime and anywhere through the Internet with a computer and a VRML player.
