Counselling support for the mental health of children in Hong Kong’s international schools during the COVID-19 pandemic: parents’ perspectives

Conclusions Parents’ perceptions of counselling during the school closure period provide important feedback that schools can use to build more integrated and responsive support services. Abstract

ABSTRACT Objective This study investigated how school counsellors in international schools in Hong Kong supported the wellbeing of students and families during the period of school closure caused by the COVID-19 pandemic from the perspective of parents. 【摘要】目的研究香港国际学校辅导员如何从家长角度出发,在新冠肺炎疫情导致学校停课期间,为学生和家庭的福祉提供支持。方法对香港11所不同国际学校的16名家长进行访谈,并对数据进行主题分析。结果:在学校关闭期间,辅导员与家长之间存在牢固的预先存在关系、角色清晰、开放的沟通与咨询服务对家长不断变化的需求的有效适应有关,但这些特征往往较弱或缺失。结论:家长对学校关闭期间咨询的看法提供了重要的反馈,学校可以利用这些反馈来建立更综合、响应更迅速的支持服务。辅导员可以在危机中更有效地支持学生的健康,通过清楚地沟通他们的角色,与家长建立牢固的关系,帮助学生在他们的学校生活中保持多样化的经历。
