Abstract

Three new orientations are observed during the reduction of a single crystal of hematite (α-Fe2O3) to magnetite (Fe3O4) at temperatures between 700–800°C.

The multiplicity of the orientations are discussed on the basis of the symmetries of the hematite and the magnetite.
