Abstract
A strain degradating pesticide efficiently was isolated from the soil was long-term pesticide-contaminated near the pesticide factory of Xiantao City, Hubei Province. It was named as HS-MP13 and characterized. The results indicated that the HS-MP13 strain was most similar to Bacillus cereus based on the results of morphologic characteristics, physiological and biochemical properties and phylogenic analysis of 16S rDNA sequence. The strain HS-MP13 was identified as B. cereus preliminarily. Under aerobic denitrification conditions, we have determined the degradation capacity for methyl parathion (MP) and denitrifying activity of HS-MP13 in the special medium with an initial concentration of 10 mM (140 mg/L) NO3--N and an initial concentration of 100 mg/L MP. The degradation rates of nitrates and MP within 12 hours were found to be 77% and 100%, respectively. It indicated that B. cereus was able to act simultaneously degradation of MP and denitrification under aerobic conditions and it may be a good candidate for aerobic wastewater treatment.
