Abstract

In order to measure bacterial culture growth, an improved holder design for a QCM sensor has been developed. Aspects related to losses produced by the crystal support on the holder, assembly stability, airtightness, measurement specificity and compatibility of holder material with biological culture media have been taken in account. Experimental measurements have shown a good agreement with theoretical values and good stability over time. For this reason, this QCM sensor holder design is going to be used in a novel affordable multichannel measurement instrument for continuous monitoring of bacterial biofilm growth.
