Abstract

Abstract Coherent soils are very responsive in nature and are part of many human activities. They change in volume considerably with changes in moisture content. These soils are characterized by the presence of a large proportion of highly active clay minerals of the montmorillonite group which are responsible for the pronounced volume change capability of the soils.
