Le terme de pseudometal est propose pour un groupe de cristaux de proprietes intermediaires entre celles des metaux et des semiconducteurs. Quelques remarques permettent enfin de prevoir les classes de semiconducteurs susceptibles d'associer une mobilite des porteurs elevee a un ordre magnetique. \n \n \n \nThe positions of the valence and conduction bands of a crystal, resulting from the widening of the bonding and antibonding levels of a molecule, are compared with those of the sub-levels t2g and eg, resulting from the splitting of the d-levels by the crystal field of the effective atomic point charges. The hybridization of dx2–y2 and dz2 orbitals with p-orbitals is considered when their energies are alike and this accounts for the large number of possible equiatomic metallic compounds. A general interpretation is given of electrical conduction in compounds of transition metals which agrees well with experimental results and is largely consistent with the principal ideas formerly suggested. The word pseudometal is suggested for a group of crystals whose properties are intermediate between those of metals and semiconductors.
