Abstract

One of the most efficient, energy-saving and environment friendly systems is the geothermal energy. The utilization of geothermal energy could be electrical generation, direct application, and both in cascade, depending on the temperature of the fluid. This work focuses on geothermal heating and cooling systems. The major components of this system are geothermal heat pump, distribution subsystem and ground heat exchanger are presented and discussed. This work shows how geothermal heating and cooling is working, major components of the system, optional equipment for the system, ground heat exchanger configurations (ground loop), benefits of geothermal system and environmental impacts of geothermal system are discussed.
