Abstract
Presents some of the history of software inspections, walkthroughs and reviews. This shows that inspections are related to research efforts back in the 1970s. An example success story is briefly described to illustrate how research has impacted industrial software development practice in this area. The success story was the result of researchers and practitioners working closely together. Finally, challenges and questions as well as areas for further work are outlined.
