Abstract

1-Phenylazo-2-naphthol (PAN) was subjected to electrocoagulation using a 0.3 A d.c electrolytic cell in various solvents including ethanol, acetone, benzene and n-hexane. The extent of decolourization of PAN in the solvents has been determined. The highest decolourization was achieved in ethanol with colour removal efficiency of 63% within the first 15 min and 79% after 120 min of electrocoagulation.
