Large format camera three years after: achievements, criticisms and remarks

Abstract

A review is given of the investigations performed with Large Format Camera (L.F.C.) images since these cameras were put on the market. The tests are very different from each other and, therefore, are not easy to compare. With a sample of the most significant results, the author intends to underline the difference in opinions and the common findings. The latter are: a shortcoming in image reproduction; geometric quality and point positioning even better than expected; some limitations in mapping and updating caused by detail identification and interpretation in poorly contrasted areas.

Many practical applications are mentioned, all very satisfactory, that have taken place worldwide, where L.F.C. images can be obtained.
