EBV is a major causative agent of Burkitt lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma, post-transplantation lymphoproliferative disorder, NK/T cell lymphoma, chronic active EBV disease, nasopharyngeal carcinoma, gastric carcinoma, and infectious mononucleosis. Although a truly comprehensive understanding of the virus and the associated disorders remains elusive, major breakthroughs in molecular cloning and omics analyses are shedding new light on this important virus. For example, EBV is now implicated in autoimmune diseases and neurodegenerative disorders. Abstract

Ever since its discovery as the first human oncogenic virus, Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) has been the focus of many researchers and is one of the best-studied pathogens.
