This common culture, which emerges with socialization and coexistence, is a place where individuals are connected to each other in a cohesive and coexistent way. Historical information in the memory of the society as well as written sources of history are of great importance. Individuals have a great deal of verbal history at the point of sharing and accumulating knowledge as a living history. Various information and events based on cultural heritage that is on the verge of disappearing can be expressed as basic myths holding societies together. The aim of our study with this point was to determine the information about the meaning of the neighborhood name of the residents of the Tokat province center by means of oral history applications. In the study, the method of analysis was used as the qualitative research design and the neighborhoods subject to research were limited to 42 neighborhoods in the central district of Tokat. With the interview form prepared for this purpose, interviews were held with adult participants who were older than the residents themselves and the relevant data were recorded. With the oral history practices in the teaching of social studies, the individual is able to obtain information about the environment and family tree he lives in person. Thus, history teaching is provided to discover more fun and knowledge. The transfer of cultural heritage and cultural elements that hold society together to future generations, collective belonging and awareness can only be realized with the accumulation of historical knowledge. \nIn the research findings, it was concluded that there was a lack of information on the oral history of the 7th grade students. Some of the students have seen street names as street neighborhoods.
