The paper focuses on the problem of accumulated municipal solid waste utilization in terms of power generation facilities design and implementation. The introductory paper of the paper highlights the impact of the quality of the landfill gas on the operational characteristics of power generation facilities. The authors analyze fuel consumption of an individual generator depending on the methane concentration and energy production per year. Dynamic behavior of gas-reciprocating engine was investigated in the second part of the paper, given specific characteristics of fuel consumption. The authors developed the model in Matlab Simulink in order to analyze steady-state and transient operation modes. It was founded that methane concentration influences the generator operation mode, and, consequently, power and energy production. The concluding part of the study describes the state incentives, aimed at waste-based generation development stimulation. General assessment of implementation potential together with the foreseen barriers to overcome towards industry-scale implementation are discussed.
