A Multiscale Hybrid Finite-Element Solver for Flow in Porous Media
In this paper, we present a multiscale hybrid finite-element solver for flow in porous media with real field geomodel complexity. Multiscale methods solve the flow pressure equation on coarse mesh, and utilize the effects of fine-scale heterogeneities through basis functions formulation computed from local flow problems. Multiscale methods offer large computational savings and provide more accurate approximation than traditional up scaling methods. Published numerical simulation experiments of flow in porous media have so far been limited to ideal geomodel. In particular, we discuss how to handle the effects of faults and wells. Finally, we present the numerical results of multiscale flow solvers for a real field geomodel.
