Perceptions of bilateral tensions between China and Australia/Aotearoa New Zealand in educational settings

Attitudes towards Chinese language and China Studies in both Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand have been affected by the deterioration in their respective bilateral relationships with China over the past few years. This has impacted Chinese language educators and students in a variety of ways. We conducted an online survey in 2022 to investigate aspects of the bilateral relationships that have impacted educators’ work and relationships as they attempted to negotiate challenges arising from the changing dynamics in the relationships.
