Impact of Back-End Port Cables on Storage Read/Write Performance
To improve reliability, redundant cables are used between controller frames and disk frames. If redundant back-end port cables go offline, what is the impact on the read/write performance of the storage system? Will read/write performance be halved? In order to explore the impact of redundant back-end port cables on storage read/write performance, this paper takes the DELL SC5020 storage as the research object, removes redundant back-end port cables, and tests the storage read/write performance in two ways. In one mode, the block size is 512K and the read/write ratio is 100%/0% by sequential read and write. Another mode, the block size is 8K and the read/write ratio is 80%/20% by random read and write. The research results show that the storage performance reduces to 20.21% ~74.41% when redundant back-end port cables are removed.
