Die Enge der weiten Medienwelt. Bedrohen Algorithmen die Freiheit öffentlicher Kommunikation

Deutsch Der Beitrag interpretiert die Forderung nach einer Algorithmen-Ethik als exemplarischen Ausdruck fur die verschiedenen medienethischen Herausforderungen durch die Digitalisierung der Kommunikation. Davon ausgehend zielt der Text eine ethische Reflexion fur den Bereich der offentlichen Kommunikation an. Die These lautet, dass die Folgen der Digitalisierung Auswirkungen haben auf die Freiheit offentlicher Kommunikation. Um diese These zu prufen, beginnen die Uberlegungen mit der Macht der Algorithmen und den sozialen Phanomenen, die hinter der Internetnutzung liegen. In einem politisch-ethischen Zugriff wird daraufhin die Bedeutung der Freiheit offentlicher Kommunikation betont und gefragt, ob diese Freiheit in der digitalen Medienwelt bedroht ist. Die Argumentation endet mit handlungsorientierten Uberlegungen zur Zukunft der offentlichen Kommunikation in Zeiten des Internets.  English "The Narrowness of the Wide Open Media Landscape.“ Do Algorithms Pose a Threat to the Freedom of Public Communication? This paper discusses demands for “algorithmic ethics” and is meant to serve as an example for the many challenges facing the field of media ethics as a result of the digitization of communication. Taking this as its basis, the text seeks to provide an ethical reflection on the field of public communication. Its hypothesis states that the consequences of digitization have an impact on the freedom of public communication. In order to test this hypothesis the paper begins by focusing on the power of algorithms and social phenomena creating the basis for internet usage. Taking a political-ethical approach it goes on to emphasize the importance of freedom in public communication and asks if such freedom is under threat in the world of digital media. The conclusion provides some applied analysis regarding the future of public communication in the age of the internet.
