Research on short-circuit current levels in Sverdlovsk power system
The determination short-circuit currents values at any point in the electric power system is an important design and operational task. Calculations of short-circuit currents are performed based on regulatory documents. The actual values of short-circuit currents are defined by means of emergency event recorders. However, there is no comparative analysis of the short-circuit current levels to compare calculated and actual values in the practice of electrical power systems (EPS) operation. So, when selecting and testing the switching equipment and live parts of switchgears, it is required to check the equipment for dynamic stability and thermal heating. The short-circuit currents in EPS are constantly increasing which leads to the necessity to replace switching devices and live parts. The financial possibilities of electric grid companies are limited which requires a correct prioritizing related to the timely replacement of equipment at substations. Today, it became possible to identify a statistical regularity between calculated and actual values of short-circuit currents.
