Disturbance Estimation and Compensation Based on Frequency Response in an Islanded Microgrid
Due to the large deployment of inverter-based power sources; the overall inertia of islanded microgrids is low. This results in an increase in the initial rate of change of frequency (RoCoF) and a decrease in the minimum value of frequency (frequency nadir) in case of any disturbance on the load side or generation side. This paper presents a dynamic frequency model for estimating the power imbalance in islanded microgrids and supplying the required power using the primary frequency control technique. This model of a microgrid is developed in Typhoon real-time hardware-in-the-loop simulator using renewable energy sources and parallel operated synchronous generators for real-time validation.
