Acute pancreatitis is a pathology characterized by the presence of acinar cells destruction, being its most frequent etiologies alcohol consumption and choledocholithiasis. The diagnosis is clinical, based on the revised Atlanta criteria. Endoscopic management is currently the first-line treatment for complications secondary to acute pancreatitis (pancreatic and peripancreatic collections, pseudocysts and necrosis) that are associated with persistent abdominal pain, obstruction of the duodenal or gastric outflow tract, biliary infection or obstruction. Direct endoscopic necrosectomy has become an essential tool in the treatment of acute necrotizing pancreatitis.
