Fiber optic sensor systems are presented for detection of acoustic and optic partial discharges at cable connectors and high energy transmission systems. Applications to the photonic detection of partial discharges are shown. Signal processing is applied for automated identification of defined patterns to separate partial discharges from noise for online monitoring and compared with conventional electrical partial discharge measurement.
