It was prepared with the aim of investigating the effect of nonverbal clues of the teachers in teaching English. Forty students of grade ten from four different schools of Butwal Sub-metropolitan city were asked some questions related to the nonverbal communication and nonverbal behaviours of the teachers and their impact on the students specially focusing on the English teachers and their classes. From the data gathered it was found out that the non verbal communication is very common and important in English classes and in many cases it supports the students in getting meanings of different expressions of the teachers and helps them to get motivated in learning English. One thing of caution is that the non verbal behaviours are much culture bound and the teachers need to be aware of the cultural background of the students. 摘要

本文是在对中学生英语课堂中不同类型的非语言交际进行研究的基础上编写的。本研究旨在探讨教师在英语教学中运用非语言线索的效果。本研究以天津市四所不同学校的40名十年级学生为对象,就教师的非语言交际和非语言行为及其对学生的影响进行了问卷调查。从收集到的数据中,我们发现非语言交际在英语课堂上是非常普遍和重要的,在很多情况下,它支持学生理解老师不同表达的意思,帮助他们获得学习英语的动力。需要注意的是,非语言行为有很大的文化局限性,教师需要了解学生的文化背景。本研究的发现和结论将有助于教师在教学过程中意识到自己的非语言信号,并对学生在课堂和学校的行为做出反应,从而提高教学水平。
