A Reconfigurable Four-Port MIMO Antenna for Sub-6 GHz Applications
A reconfigurable multiple input multiple output (MIMO) antenna has been presented in this paper for sub-6 GHz applications. The antenna geometry is developed on a single dielectric substrate with a defected ground plane and a p-i-n diode is used in the top metallic layer to switch between ultra-wideband (UWB) and narrow-band (NB) states of operation. During UWB mode, the proposed MIMO antenna exhibits an operating bandwidth from 2.4 GHz to 6.0 GHz, and it resonates between 5.8 GHz to 6.3 GHz during the NB state. Furthermore, minimum isolation of 20 dB, an envelope correlation coefficient value of less than 0.5, and a channel capacity loss of less than 0.5 is attained by the antenna, displaying satisfactory MIMO characteristics. Low profile, compact size, and easy switching technique offer the proposed antenna as a good choice for wireless communication under sub-6 GHz spectrum in various WLAN, WiFi devices, and internet service providers (ISP's).
