A broadband proximity fed rectangular slot cut shorted sectoral microstrip antenna is proposed. The analysis to study the effects of slot on the broadband response is presented. The slot reduces the higher order mode resonance frequencies of the shorted sectoral patch and along with the fundamental patch mode yields broadband response. The simulated and measured bandwidth of more than 550 MHz is realized.
