Study of a New Structure of Three-Phase Saturated-Core Fault Current Limiter
Saturated-core’s high demand for DC bias source and low utilization of the iron core limits its development. Some papers put forward new structures to solve this problem, but new challenges appears. This paper proposes a novel SCFCL which uses permanent magnet to provide more magneto motive force (MMF) to offset the influence of original PMs on the cores when fault occurs. The new structure of AC coils proposed makes SCFCL be applied to all circumstances of short-circuit fault, not merely single-phase short-circuit fault. Analysis of the equivalent magnetic circuit of new structure and finite-element analysis simulations in different situations in JMAG are performed to verify the performance of current limiting.
