Patient Safety Training Bundle: A Predictor of Improving Staff nurses’ Knowledge and Safety Performance

Introduction: Patient safety is fundamental to quality nursing care. A cornerstone of continuous improvement based on training as well as learning from errors and adverse events. Aim: The aim of this study was to assess the effect of patient safety training bundle on staff nurses' knowledge and safety performance. Methods: The study was carried out at Ain-Shams University Hospital using a Quasi experimental design on 100 staff nurses. Tools: The data were collected through a Patient safety knowledge questionnaire, and Observational checklist for safety performance. Results: The results of the study revealed that pre-intervention phase, staff nurses’ knowledge of patient safety was low, with only (34%) of them had satisfactory knowledge. on the other hand, statistically significant improvements were revealed at the post-intervention phase in all areas, reaching 100.0%, with slight declines at the follow-up phase (95%) but still higher compared with the preintervention levels(p<0.0001). their performance increased from 50% to 96% in the post intervention phase and slightly declined to94% at follow up phase (p=0.002) Conclusion and recommendations: the study intervention (patient safety training bundle was statistically significant independent positive predictor of staff nurses' knowledge and safety performance scores. the study recommends application of patient safety training bundle to improve staff nurses' safety performance in similar settings, further studies are needed to assess safety performance and its effect on quality patient care.
