The lexical data for this study were collected from a corpus of interviews with French teachers. Observations concerning the constitution of this metalinguistic lexicon and its use by teachers are provided. Particularly, it was noted that the metalinguistic lexicon can be related to linguistic terminology, to didactic terminology and to general language metalanguage, and that it can be used to refer to several types of linguistic referents. The conclusions of this research mainly point out the non-uniformity of the metalinguistic lexicon of French teachers, from one academic level to another, and from one teacher to another. It thus reveals the absence of an established metalanguage.
